School based activities

Migrants in Australia can access school based settlement services, such as English language courses, preparatory courses for high school, and homework centres. These services offer young refugee migrants progressive integration to schooling and are an ideal platform for Opening Doors.

Opening Doors has partnered with the Secondary Introductory English Centre at the Dickson College Refugee Bridging Program to offer a structured school based activity to students from refugee backgrounds. A visit by these students to Geoscience Australia was facilitated by Opening Doors, to coincide with the Transit of Venus. A visit to Questacon by teachers from the Secondary Introductory English Centre took place in July 2012.

Opening Doors is keen to develop partnerships with school based migrant service providers in Australia. Interested parties are invited to contact Dr Sean Perera.
