ANU Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Public Policy and Outreach Nomination

Opening Doors was one of the six academic achievements nominated by the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science for the ANU Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Public Policy and Outreach 2015. The other academic achievements included Science Circus Africa, Science in ACTion and KindaThinky, which were nominated together under the title of “Science Engagement Champions”.

Opening Doors was described, in the nomination, as an innovative outreach project that engages young humanitarian immigrants with Australian science. The nomination described further the Federal Government’s Inspiring Australia grant which kicked off Opening Doors programmes in 2012. In partnership with the Goulburn Multicultural Centre, Opening Doors continues to engage participants in this particular disadvantaged sector of the community by offering specially designed science communication events and STEM career awareness.

The final outcome of the competitive nomination process of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Public Policy and Outreach will be announced later in 2015.
